Oasis Of Hope- Changing the world one at a time

It all started in the year 2010 when I was 11 years in class 5 at the Ruben primary School. My parents separated abruptly and suddenly our family of eight (two boys and six girls) were left with our mother only to care for us in a house whose rent was unpaid for three months and the land lord was now threatening to lock us out of the only home we ever knew.
Due to these problems we had to look for any means to survive, so my mother started a small business where she would sell groundnuts and bananas but the money was too little to cater for all our needs. Later my younger sister and I who was eight years then in class 2 joined my mother in the business so we took our own stations along Mombasa road (a busy highway in Kenya) to also sell the groundnuts and bananas every evening after school and during the weekends we would go all day and sometimes we even had to miss school when the situation was dire.
Need I say that by God’s grace one of our teachers found us and linked us with a social worker at Ruben centre and through her my sister and I were able to get sponsorship for primary education by Terre Des homes. We were also enrolled in a food program where we used to get some beans and maize for every week. Soon the situation became a bit better and I was able to complete my primary education and attain 369 marks out of 500. This placed me in the top ten students in the class of over 150 students but more importantly the best girl in my school and I was able to get another scholarship for my secondary education by Christian Brothers.
Through Br.Frank the director Ruben Centre I joined a national school in Machakos, (near Nairobi) studied well without fees problems and in 2017 I managed to complete with a grade C+
I received an admission letter to Pwani University, which is located at the Coast of Kenya, but due to financial problems I did not manage to join the university. I have a passion in beauty and hair dressing and given a chance I would like to do it alongside Business Administration because I aspire to be an entrepreneur in the future. I feel if I can do some training at a business College then I can leave with a real skill to get me started. I want to thank Br.Frank and the entire Ruben fraternity for the help that they have continued to show my family and I and for the hope that they have installed in me.
