The introduction of an ambulance at Ruben Health Centre in July of 2018 has been a resounding success, positively impacting the lives of patients and the community at large. Before the ambulance's arrival, accessing timely treatment was a significant challenge. However, the ambulance's timely emergency response has proven crucial in saving lives and mitigating the severity of medical conditions. Its ability to reach the scene quickly and provide immediate medical attention ensures that patients receive critical care when they need it most. Additionally, the ambulance serves as a safe and efficient mode of transportation, addressing the previous barrier of limited transportation resources. Patients, particularly those with limited mobility or in critical conditions requiring specialized care, can now be transported promptly and safely to higher-level facilities.

Moreover, the availability of the ambulance has greatly improved access to referral services. Patients in need of specialized care or advanced treatments can be transferred to appropriate healthcare facilities in a timely manner. This ensures that they receive necessary interventions without unnecessary delays, leading to improved health outcomes. Furthermore, the ambulance plays a pivotal role in community outreach and health programs. It enables healthcare providers to bring services directly to the community, promoting preventive healthcare, early intervention, and health education initiatives. This proactive approach ultimately enhances the overall health and well-being of the community.

The impact of the ambulance is evident in the success stories shared by healthcare professionals. According to Ruben Health Centre's maternity lead, Agripina Wiyala, the presence of the ambulance has facilitated good and timely management of cases, leading to successful outcomes in saving both mothers and babies. The ambulance driver, Joshua Obuya, acknowledges its significant role in facilitating healthcare services and mentions referring a notable number of 487 cases to mothers in need of specialized care in the 48,000 KM over time. By ensuring timely and efficient transportation, Joshua has contributed to improving access to medical services and increasing the chances of positive health outcomes for the referred mothers. His dedication and expertise have made a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and the overall functioning of the maternity wing.

Overall, the introduction of the ambulance at Ruben Health Centre has been a remarkable success. It has saved time, potentially saved lives, and enhanced the delivery of healthcare services for the benefit of patients and healthcare professionals alike. The gratitude goes to everyone who contributed to the realization of this dream, including Isuzu Kenya for their substantial discount through their Community Social Responsibility department. The ambulance's presence has significantly improved the ability to respond to emergencies promptly and reduce maternal deaths in the future. Special appreciation is also extended to the support from funders in Australia. The ambulance continues to be a symbol of hope and a lifeline for those in need, reinforcing the commitment of Ruben Health Centre to the well-being of the community.
