The lure and expectation of accessing a job in Mukuru's local manufacturing industry draws people from rural areas, yet the living conditions in the slum are deplorable and in a lot of cases, extremely desperate. This program is dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

RUBEN WELFARE FUND

We focus on addressing challenges in education, health, human development, and advocacy. However, recent funding trends prioritize development projects, overlooking crucial welfare needs. To tackle urgent issues faced by marginalized individuals, especially women and abandoned children, the establishment of "The Ruben Welfare Fund" will provide support and address pressing needs in the community.


STOP CHILD EXPLOITATION PROGRAM

This program was started in November 2009 with a goal of eliminating child labour within the Mukuru slum. Since its inception over 350 children have been rescued from child labour. The child labour program creates awareness in the community by mobilizing, educating and sensitizing the community towards working collaboratively to uplift the standards of children. 

 

Stop Sexual and Gender-based Violence Program

Wangu Kanja Foundation is a partner program that fights against gender based violence. Wangu Kanja Foundation which is a non-governmental, non-political and not for profit making organization whose vision is a society free of sexual violence. 


Babies, Infants & Toddlers Nanny Course

The first three years of life are a time of rapid brain development and learning. This time is critically important for babies; infants and toddlers as they develop foundations for learning. The purpose of the HD&STP Baby; Infants and Toddlers Course is to provide a comprehensive view of the development of babies; infants and toddlers while documenting experiences that support this development, and the practical care requirements needed in the care of a child under 3 years of age.  The curriculum focuses on the relationship between the child and all significant adults in the child’s world. This course will provide the knowledge, and the practical learning support to enable graduates to undertake workplace opportunities related to the care of babies; infants and toddlers.
